Monthly Review
Overview
The monthly review is where you and your partner sit down (literally or virtually) to go through the month's transactions. Flag anything that looks off, leave comments for context, and mark the month as reviewed when you are both satisfied. JoinFunds tracks the review status and notifies you if new transactions arrive after a review is marked complete.
Start a review
Open the Review page
Click Review in the sidebar. The page defaults to the current month. Use the month selector to review a previous month if needed.
Check the review status
The status banner at the top shows whether the month is In Progress, Completed, or Needs Re-review. A fresh month starts as In Progress.
Review transactions
Flag transactions that need discussion
Scroll through the transaction list. Click the flag icon on any transaction to mark it for discussion. Flagged items are highlighted so they stand out during your review conversation.
Leave comments
Click on a flagged transaction to expand it and add a comment. Comments are visible to both household members in real time — useful if you are reviewing asynchronously rather than side by side.

Complete the review
Use the checklist
The review checklist helps you work through key areas — uncategorised transactions, large purchases, budget overruns. Tick off each item as you go.
Mark as completed
Once you have reviewed everything, mark the month as Completed. If new transactions are imported for that month later (for example, a delayed card payment), JoinFunds automatically changes the status to Needs Re-review so nothing slips through.
Set a monthly reminder — perhaps the first weekend of each month — to review the previous month together. Keeping reviews regular prevents a backlog of unreviewed transactions building up.
